“There is no real peace, there is no real happiness in anything in heaven or on the earth, except to those who serve the Lord. In His service there is joy, there is happiness; but they are not to be found anywhere else.

In it there are peace and comfort; but when the soul is filled with joy, with peace, and with glory, and is perfectly satisfied therewith a person even then has but little idea of that which is in store for all the faithful.

“Thrust a man into prison and bind him with chains, and then let him be filled with the comfort and with the glory of eternity, and that prison is a palace to him. Again, let a man be seated upon a throne with power and dominion in this world, ruling his millions and millions, and without that peace which flows from the Lord of Hosts–without that contentment and joy that comes from heaven, his palace is a prison; his life is a burden to him; he lives in fear, in dread, and in sorrow. But when a person is filled with the peace and power of God, all is right with him.” – (B. Young, July 5, 1857)

COURAGE

One man with courage makes a majority. -Andrew Jackson

It’s all right to be cautious – but even a turtle never gets anywhere until he sticks his head out.

Courage is being the only one who knows you’re afraid.

Necessity makes even the timid brave.

Remember, you are your own doctor when it comes to curing cold feet.

Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb. That’s where the fruit is.

Keep your fears to yourself, but share your boldness with others.

Today’s Motivation:

“The world belongs to those with the most energy.”
— Alexis de Tocqueville

The kind of energy de Tocqueville had in mind was not stress- driven, anxiety-producing mania. He was referring to that state you have experienced at one time or another — the calm, assured, clearheaded feeling that you are doing well at doing what’s right.

Call it “flow” or “being in the zone.” Whatever name you use it means rising to the peak of efficiency, creativity, and productivity. And the only way to reach that energizing states to remain calm, focused, and free from distractions. This is one of those rare instances when you actually can control something!! If that’s not a reason to stay cool, then what is?!

DIPLOMACY

Diplomacy is a peaceful substitute for shooting.

The person who is tactful has the knack of making a point without making an enemy.

Diplomacy is the ability to take something and make the other fellow believe he is giving it away.

A diplomat possesses the art of handling a porcupine without disturbing the quills.

Arch Ward says that tact is the ability to shut your mouth before someone else wants to.

COOPERATION

Cooperation is spelled with two letters: W E. –G.M. Verity

Coming together is a beginning; staying together is progress; working together is success.

No one can whistle a symphony. It takes an orchestra to play it.

You can’t applaud with one hand.

If you see a turtle on a stump, you know he didn’t get there by himself.

Cooperation will solve many problems. Even freckles would be a nice tan if they would get together.

We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately. -Benjamin Franklin

FOOLS RUSH IN WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD

Meaning: Unwise people thoughtlessly and rashly tackle situations that even the wisest think twice about.

Today’s proverb comes from Alexander Pope’s “An Essay on Criticism” from 1711. He was discussing critics who, in his eyes, have the audacity to voice opinion where even more enlightened readers would hesitate to criticize: “No place so sacred from such fops is barr’d, Nor is Paul’s church more safe than Paul’s churchyard: Nay, fly to altars; there they’ll talk you dead; For fools rush in where angels fear to tread.”

Disapointment, sorrow, pain are all flames for the Refiner’s fire, but they are to temper us only, not to consume us. -Boyd K. Packer

ANSWERS:

1. On average, 345.
2. 1/18th of an ounce.
3. You would have to have slept longer than Rip Van Winkle to think that it’s because the White House is associated with purity. And if we were looking just at the past decades, perhaps scarlet red would have been a more appropriate shade.

In fact, contrary to what many people think the place where the President hangs his hat wasn’t always white and was not originally called the White House. The original building, put up at the end of the 18th century, was called the Presidential Palace and was made of brownstone. And it might still be somber looking had not the British set fire to it during the War of 1812.

Restoring the place involved, among other things, covering the burn marks. White paint was just fine for this purpose, leading people to refer to it thereafter as the White House, a designation that became official under Teddy Roosevelt.
